Inspired by the good example of the dynamic Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Geordin Hill Lewis, Capetonians are increasingly going out to the beaches of the city to pick up litter when they walk their dogs or when they participate in community clean ups.
In Camps Bay, for example, residents get together on the last Saturday of the month, from 10h00 – 11h00, to clean up the Camps Bay Beach as well as the picnic area at the Tidal Pool in the suburb. Participants bring their own gloves, while bags are provided. Participants receive a complimentary beverage after the clean-up.
Participating in a beach clean is a good way to be out on the beach whilst doing good for the environment, and is good exercise too.
Our Labotessa hosts will gladly provide details of Beach Cleans in Cape Town to its guests.
