Cycling in the City of Cape Town

Cape Town strives to be a cycling-friendly city, with some of its city centre streets marked in green on the far left, designated for cyclists.

The City of Cape Town introduced the green cycling lanes to reduce the number of cars in the city centre.

The streets with green cycle lanes include Adderley Street, St George’s Mall, Shortmarket Street, Waterkant Street, Somerset Road, Bree Street, and Albert Road.

The Cape Town Cycle Tour is one of the highlights on the local sporting calendar, and is held on the second Sunday in March. Prior to Lockdown it had 35000 local and international cyclists riding the 109 km route around the Cape Peninsula.

The Labotessa hosts can assist its guests with bicycle rentals.
