The South African Jewish Museum on Hatfield Street is an extension of South Africa’s oldest shul, the Gardens Synagogue, its modern architecture creating a fusion with that of the heritage of the synagogue.
The Museum contains various displays and exhibitions taking the visitor back to the early roots of South African Jews mainly from Eastern Europe, and the cultural history of Jews, Jewish life and Judaism. The Museum provides a Tour Guide service at an additional charge.
Renowned cricketer and cricket administrator Ali Bacher is honoured with an exhibition running currently, reflecting his life and achievements.
The Jewish Museum Shop sells jewellery, candle holders, Challah boards and cups, toys and games, cook books, greeting cards, and more. Café Ritve is a kosher restaurant on the Museum premises, serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The Museum is open from Sundays – Fridays, and is 800 meters from Labotessa.
