The countdown to the festive season begins and with it comes the season’s most iconic activity: lighting the Christmas tree. While cities around the world celebrate this annual event by constructing unique trees, Cape Town offers an awe-inspiring addition to the global family with the exquisite Moët & Chandon Golden Tree.

Moët & Chandon Golden Tree is created entirely from champagne bottles which illuminate the V&A Waterfront Silo District. Built with over 2000 recycled champagne bottles and soaring over four-storeys, this dazzling constructed tree is wrapped in shimmering gold ribbon – created from over 2000 discs. Each LED light is programmed to illuminate in time with festive themed music, making it the spectacle of the season.

This year the honour of flipping the festive switch will be with Springboks Rugby Captain, Siya Kolisi with several of the world cup winners in attendance along with other local celebrities.

“The Moët & Chandon Golden Tree has become a symbol of festive celebration and marks the opening of the holiday season in South Africa. Moët & Chandon Impérial also celebrates its 150th anniversary this year and [with] the Springboks [bringing] the World Cup Rugby trophy home – there are so many reasons to join us and celebrate!” says Pascal Asin, Moët Hennessy Managing Director Africa & Middle East.

A truly immersive experience awaits visitors to the Golden Tree Lighting Ceremony, with internationally revered opera singers, Given Nkosi and Magdalene Minnaar performing on the night. While the ceremony starts at 7 pm, ensure you are there well in advance as the event attracts thousands of visitors as excited as you.

Additionally, visitors will be able to purchase Moët & Chandon minis from dedicated bars around the tree, and festive specials will be available at selected restaurants.

Festive Fridays

For those that miss the opening ceremony, Moët & Chandon have generously organised an additional three Festive Fridays: 6th, 13th and 20th December, which will include a Golden Tree lighting experience.
