When the Rugby World Cup Champions of 2023 flew into the Mother City, and toured the streets of Cape Town at the start of this month, there was a palpable sense of solidarity in the air. As a nation revered for its rainbow colours, depicting a diverse confluence of cultures, it was evident that there were only two colours around town on that day. A valley of green and gold engulfed the town like an undulating wave of wheat fields. Having lifted the Webb Ellis Cup for the fourth time in history, witnessing our team celebrate their win – not only for themselves, their families and their extended squad, but for our whole country – was a sight to behold. Something that will be harnessed in our memory banks and harboured in hearts for many, many years to come. Cheering with strangers and dancing to the beat of our own celebratory drums is something that we are very good at, as South Africans. When the nation is really and truly united for a day. Once again, huge congratulations to our entire team of heroes that took us all the way, down that long, gruelling, nail-biting, screaming, cheering and crying road to victory! We are incredibly proud of your resilience and sheer determination.
Reflecting on that achievement gives us all that proverbial food for thought. To keep ploughing forth no matter the odds. It’s been a fantastic start to the Cape’s summer season for hospitality. The World Travel Market (WTM) held in London earlier this month was the perfect platform for South Africa to exhibit its gallant rise in tourism in 2023, with the arrival statistics constantly on the rise. Especially at Cape Town International Airport. Figures revealed that the country has seen a significant increase in visitors between the months of January and September of 2023 – up 59% in comparison to the statistics of 2022.
Which only adds that extra vigour to our daily practices at the hotel. What inspires us to showcase the Mother City in the best way that we can. Through the lens of authenticity, sincerity and grit, encased in style and luxury. We thrive in the buzzing quarters of the city, vicariously experiencing new parts of our town, that our guests and patrons encounter. Enriching life at Labotessa even
more.
Well done, South Africa – on the field, around the world, and at home.
