They say it takes a village to raise a child. It’s the influence of the endearing community that helps to shape and steer that child in the direction of prosperity. To nurture its innate existence, allowing it to flourish into its integral self. Like with any infant, it is the people that ardently embrace each chapter of its growth with the purity of sincerity. Ensuring its wellbeing is at the core of every gesture of support. So that it can fully reach its potential. Having been cradled in the embrace of its custodians.
So it is, for us, as we consider the near-adolescent (in hotel years) that Labotessa is becoming. A gradual demonstration of growth from 2019 until today, has us feeling immensely proud and overwhelmingly grateful. On the 12th of August 2024, Labotessa turns five.
As we look back over the past five years, and of course the years prior ~ to when the floors, the walls and the historical corridors were being restored and gently altered ~ it’s apparent how notable transformation is, with time. Just as it has been with everything that’s ever occupied the ancient quarters of Church Square, flanking the old cobbles that harness themselves centre stage. A tapered transition of architectural traditions, reinventing the wheel, yet retaining every essence of the cultural history.
Perhaps that what’s been so evident in Labotessa’s growth over the years. Harnessing the integrity of her past with the ever-changing landscape of the Mother City. Surviving the storms of the pandemic, evolving with the climate of a travelling world, overcoming every obstacle and embracing every bright new chapter with the eager enthusiasm of a youthful heart.
It is with the guardianship of our village that has brought us to this day in August. Celebrating all that has been and will be to come. We look forward to embarking on the next chapters of Labotessa’s story. With you; those that are our guests and those that we have worked alongside with. Fostering the vision of the hotel’s future. A vision that was; simply put by Labotessa’s Founder and Owner, Johan du Plessis, when the doors opened in August 2019…
“We are delighted to begin our foray into hotel ownership with one of South Africa’s oldest buildings, which has been a true testament to the country’s rich history and heritage. LABOTESSA is a culmination of our affinity for exceptional design, relaxed hospitality, and our connection to the city of Cape Town.”
Happy Birthday, Labotessa. We are so proud of the Grand Dame you have always been, throughout every exciting chapter of your growth.
