Franschhoek has established itself as the host town to the top Literary Festival in our country, and the celebration of books, writing, and publishing. The 16th Franschhoek Literary Festival takes place this weekend, from 19 – 21 May.
Highlights of the Festival are:
- A program with a total of 85 one-hour workshops, held in 10 venues in the village
- A panel of experts participates in the workshops
- It is an annual event
- More than 100 international as well as local authors introduce their books and participate in discussions, including journalists such as Adriaan Basson of News24 and Ferial Haffajee of Daily Maverick; former Eskom CEO and new author André de Ruyter; poets Etienne van Heerden and Antjie Krog; radio presenters Mandy Wiener, Bruce Whitfield, Lester Kiewit, and John Maytham; columnist and author Herman Lategan; entertainer Nataniël; former politician Tony Leon; and retailer Whitey Basson.
- It raises funds for Franschhoek community and school libraries
